Organisers of this weekend’s ATCO Super Series Finals Squash Championships have revealed that this year’s event is set to shatter box office records.
They have already doubled the number of tickets sold for last year’s competition.
They are also confident that when the world’s top eight players take to the court in the illustrious surroundings of The Queen’s Club in London, that they will be greeted by capacity crowds.
Ziad al-Turki, Vice-Chairman of the ATCO Group and Chairman of the Professional Squash Association (PSA), said the quality of the players on show and the decision to stage the tournament at Queen’s Club were undoubted factors in increasing appeal.
“Bringing one of the biggest events on the squash calendar to one of the most prestigious venues in world racket sport has created tremendous interest. I’m sure that these will be the best championships to date and constitute another important step forward in our campaign to bring the virtues of squash to an even bigger audience.”
The Super Series Finals were first staged in 1992 in Switzerland and moved to London’s Broadgate Arena seven years later. The move to The Queen’s Club marks the highest profile yet for the event, which this year will boast one of the richest prize funds in world squash.
The top eight players from PSA Super Series World Tour will be competing, led by the World No.1 Egyptian Karim Darwish. Darwish will be joined by compatriots Amr Shabana, Ramy Ashour and Wael el Hindi, Frenchmen Gregory Gaultier and Thierry Lincou, Australia’s David Palmer and England’s James Willstrop.
The ATCO Super Series Finals start on Saturday 14th March with the final taking place on Tuesday 17th March.
